Darren from ProBlogger today posted his 7 Link Challenge. A fun idea in which he asks bloggers to share 7 links to posts, based on the 7 criteria he selected.
ProBlogger is a great website with lots of useful tips for bloggers. Even if you don’t plan to make money with your blog, or if you don’t think of yourself as a pro blogger, this site is still one of the best in terms of blogging advice.
I’m currently reading his book “ProBlogger” (affiliate link) and I can highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking more seriously about blogging.

My First Post
This is not much of a surprise, since I suppose most first posts are of the welcoming kind: “Welcome to Constant Thinking“. It contains a short bio, my professional and blogging history and some goals I’m pursuing with this blog. This post is also linked as “About” on the top of the page and I update it regularly to reflect any recent changes.
A Post I Enjoyed Writing the Most
My last post, “Here Are The Ten Most Important Independent Solaris Blogs” is probably the post that I enjoyed writing the most: First, it’s full of link love to other people’s blogs that deserve a lot of attention because of what they’ve done to the Solaris community. Second, this post is the result of one of my first adventures in outsourcing (more on that in a future post). And third, as a result of the research for this post, I got to know a bunch of really good other Solaris related blogs.
A Post Which Had a Great Discussion
Probably the most controversial post I did was: “Home Server: RAID-GREED and Why Mirroring is Still Best“. It’s not really limited to home servers and it addresses the common misconception that RAID-Z (or RAID-5), which saves disk space, is always good. In fact, I’m convinced that the opposite is true: Spending more GB is good, because it’s cheap, simple, safe and fast. This post attracted 42 comments so far, and I still see the occasional new comment pop up even though it is more than half a year old.
A Post On Someone Else’s Blog That I Wish I Had Written
Boy, this is a difficult one. One of my Solaris blogging role models is Ben Rockwood. His posts span the widest bandwidth between the deepest inner workings of ZFS to the highest level of OpenSolaris political governance, always full of sharp insights and with an authority that only a no-BS-this-is-the-real-thing customer can have. He’s a true Solaris community leader and his analysis of the OpenSolaris governance model is most insightful, and while critical, it still encourages a positive and productive attitude in the face of the currently difficult OpenSolaris situation. Well done!
My Most Helpful Post
That’s probably “Ten Ways To Easily Improve Oracle Solaris ZFS Filesystem Performance” and I’m glad it ended up on my automatically generated “Most Popular” list on the right column. It’s really a braindump of everything I know in terms of how to get the best performance out of the ZFS filesystem and I hope it helps people better understand ZFS performance.
A Post With A Title That I’m Proud Of
I had a lot of fun finding the title for “ZFS is for 1337 Hax0rz“, which is about very geeky humour inside the OpenSolaris source code. If you still wonder what it means, look at the title of the post in your browser when you load it.
A Post That I Wish More People Had Read
Looking through the last page of my popularity list, I find “How to Add Creativity to Your Technology Career and Save Yourself from Automation and Outsourcing“, which I still think is a key post for everyone who is working in a technology oriented career. Read it now and let me know what you think.
Most of my readers expect posts around home servers or OpenSolaris, and I see that many of the posts that are related to other topics don’t get read very often. But the reality is that there’s so much I could blog about, perhaps it’s time for me to diversify my audience by starting a different blog around another topic. But I’ll need to do some topic research first.
